    ASHA SEAL

    State Education Advocacy Leaders (SEALs) are appointed by ASHA recognized state speech-language hearing associations to advocate on education issues. These issues may include caseload/workload, salary supplements, and maintenance of personnel standards in school settings. SEALs can be speech-language pathologists or audiologists. The State Education Advocacy Leaders were established in 1999 under ASHA’s Priorities. The mission of the SEALs network is to enhance and perpetuate the advocacy, leadership, and clinical management skills of school-based ASHA members at the state and local levels to influence administrative and public policy decisions that affect the delivery of speech-language pathology and audiology services in school settings (asha.org, 2014)

    ASHA StAMP

    The mission of the State Advocates for Medicare Policy (StAMP) Network is to enhance and perpetuate the advocacy, leadership, and communication of ASHA members at the state level to influence administrative and public policy decisions that impact Medicare coverage and reimbursement of audiology and speech-language pathology services.

    ASHA STAR

    The State Advocates for Reimbursement (STARs) are ASHA-member audiologists and speech-language pathologists who advocate in their states for improved health care coverage and reasonable reimbursement. Their targets are key decision-makers in private corporations, public agencies, and the local legislature. Examples are health care insurance executives, benefits administrators, state insurance department officials, and state congress members. STARs create advocacy strategies and share skills with the state speech-language-hearing associations that appoint them.

  • Committee of Ambassadors (CoA)

    The Committee of Ambassadors (CoA) act as ambassadors of ASHA by providing advocacy on and communication about the priorities of the Association to officials, constituents, peers, and the general public at the workplace, local, state, and national levels.

    The Committee of Ambassadors liaisons with ASHA Board Members at Large in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

    The Committee of Ambassadors is comprised of 54-member audiologists and 54-member speech-language pathologists who represent each state; Washington, DC; International constituents (members who reside outside the United States); U.S. territories; and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA).

  • NSHA Coalition

    NSHA Coalition to Address Personnel Shortages in Special Education and Related Services

    Nevada Speech-Language Hearing Association – NSHA/NV Coalition to Address Personnel Shortages in Special Education and Related Services is modeled after the National Coalition on Personnel Shortages. The NSHA Coalition is a statewide collaborative effort. It is supported by the Nevada Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSHA) and the Nevada Department of Education.

    Our Mission

    The mission of the NSHA/NV Coalition is to identify, disseminate, and facilitate the implementation of the identified strategies to remedy personnel shortages of service providers of children and youth with disabilities, and persistent vacancies in those areas at the state and local levels for the benefit of all children and youth throughout Nevada.

    Our Purpose

    Bring together stakeholders –

    • To monitor, track, and collect related data and information

    • To develop and facilitate professional learning for special education teachers and related service personnel

    • To engage in advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels for implementation of strategies to address personnel shortages and persistent vacancies
